Violet Engels Obituary
Violet J. Engels, age 85, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at a local care center. She was the widow of Richard Engels. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church. Pastor Marlyn Kuper will officiate. Music will be provided by Vicki Krucker as organist with Journey Green as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:00 a.m. for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and also prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Chad Jutting, Kevin Sprau, Tyler Kase, Arnold Sween, Doug Brandriet, Brandon Davis and Kris Green.
Violet was born on September 5, 1934, to Herman and Elsie (Stauffacher) Jutting, in Clear Lake, SD. She attended school in Clear Lake. On November 7, 1953, Violet was united in marriage to Richard Engels in Gary, SD and moved to Watertown. The couple moved in 1965 to Wolsey, SD, before moving back to Watertown in 1976. She worked in Watertown at the Poultry Plant, Garfield School, the Ramkota and the Salvation Army, all while taking care of her family. Richard passed away on January 16, 2011. She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. She was active with PTA and the American Legion Auxiliary in Wolsey. Violet enjoyed crafts, camping, coloring and the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Roger) Schuelke of Marietta, MN and Michelle (Brian) Green of Wilmot, SD; four grandchildren: Cody Schuelke, Nathaniel (Kaci) Schuelke, Journey and Aarik Green; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Minnick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; four sisters; and five brothers.
