Wendell Eugene Schubloom was born on November 30, 1937, to Merlyn and Lena (Sahm) Schubloom in Raymond, SD. He attended several country schools before starting high school in Clark and graduating from Willow Lake. After graduation, Wendell entered the work force in Huron, SD, where they built steel grain storage buildings out of state. In the 1970s, Wendell began opening what would be several businesses that manufactured and sold commercial doors and windows. He later worked in building construction and concrete work. He also was a board member of the People’s State Bank and was an active member of the Development Board.
On January 1, 1958, he married Ellen Pommer with whom he would raise three children. The most important thing in Wendell’s life was his family. He said they are the greatest blessing God can give us. Wendell was diagnosed with a muscle disease. He also had macular degeneration, so he enjoyed having Ellen read to him for several hours on most days. Christmas Eve was special when most of the family came together. He was very grateful to everyone who came to the house to help in different ways or just to visit over coffee.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Ellen; children: Vicky (Allan) Larson, Julie (Max) Schwader, and Stuart (Janelle) Schubloom; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one half-brother; as well as several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents Merlyn and Lena, step-parents, two half-brothers, sister, and parents-in-law, Arnold and Marie Pommer.
