William "Bill" A. MichaelsSeptember 8, 1937 ~ August 7, 2017 (age 79)
William “Bill” A. Michaels, age 79, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Elmer Brinkman will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist with Tyler Michaels-King and Madison Michaels as vocalists. The family is requested to meet by 2:30 p.m. at the chapel on Friday for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be held at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., prior to the service.
Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the U.S. Navy. Active pallbearers will be Bill’s sons: Jeff Michaels, Todd Michaels and Steve Michaels, and Bill’s grandsons: Ben Michaels, Tyler Michaels-King, Jack Lange, Tanner Lange and Connor Lange.
Bill was born on September 8, 1937, to William and Doris (Smith) Michaels, in Watertown, SD. After graduating from Watertown High School in 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Bill attended South Dakota State University after his honorable discharge.
On March 15, 1959, Bill was united in marriage to Marilyn Peppers in Huron, SD. The couple lived in Watertown where he worked as an electrician for the City of Watertown. Bill then started working for Montgomery Ward. He transferred with his job to Wisconsin and Minnesota, where he would become the district manager. This is also where they would raise their family. After retiring from Montgomery Ward in 1990, they continued to live in Bloomington, MN where Bill worked for Snap-On-Tools, Road Runner Courier and RhinoTech for his son. In 2002 the couple moved to Watertown.
He was a member of the American Legion and Cattail Crossing. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. His favorite things were riding his Harley, traveling, boating and watching all sports. He loved all animals, especially rescuing them. Bill’s sense of humor was an attribute his family won’t forget. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Watertown; his children: Jeff (JoAnn) Michaels of Burnsville, MN, Todd Michaels of Savage, MN, Steve Michaels of Bloomington, MN and Nicole (Doug) Lange of Stillwater, MN; 10 grandchildren: Tyler (Emily) Michaels-King, Benjamin Michaels, Jessica Michaels, Alyssa Michaels, Anna Michaels, Abigail Lange, Jack Lange, Tanner Lange, Connor Lange and Madison Michaels; and one brother, Robert (Lorie) Michaels of Wayzata, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
