James “Jim” W. Weisenhorn, age 61, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020, at his home. Memorial Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020, at the American Legion.
Jim was born on September 20, 1959, to Milton Charles and Barbara Jane (Balluff) Weisenhorn, in Waukegan, IL. At age 17, Jim enlisted in the US Marine Corps, and began his long career of service to our nation. After 7 years as a Marine, Jim served for 10 years in the Border Patrol, 7 years as a Criminal Investigator for the Immigration Service, and finished his career with a dozen or so years as a supervisor with the Federal Air Marshal Service. All told, he served his country for more than 35 years; it was his calling, and his life’s work.
Always an avid outdoorsman, Jim appreciated a well-trained dog. Over the course of his adulthood, Jim raised and trained four Labrador retrievers, Mac, Duce, Trei, and Q. After his retirement in late 2013, Jim devoted most of his time to his outdoor passions: fishing and duck hunting. He loved living on Lake Kampeska, and valued all his friends and neighbors in South Dakota.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his three siblings, Mary, Paul, and Peter. He is survived by a step-daughter, two sisters-in-law, five nieces and a nephew, an uncle, and numerous cousins and friends, scattered far and wide, who all love him dearly. Jim, we miss you already!
